In 2007, Rob McGowan founded Architectural Resources as the region’s exclusive dealer for Italian cabinet manufacturer Poliform. Over the years, AR has curated its offerings to include the world’s finest furniture collections - B&B Italia, Flexform, Cassina, Riva 1920, and Antonio Lupi. As a turn-key design resource, AR has also added renowned lighting companies such as Flos, Moooi, and Catellani & Smith, with world-class rug makers, Limited Edition and Kasthall.

However, perhaps the most notable additions to AR are the people. A few years back, Carmen Finegan AIA was brought on board to service the growing necessity for in house architecture and design. Her expertise has allowed the business to take on projects of any size, at any stage. Further, AR added additional design service and product knowledge by bringing on Steve Schafer to the team. With 20 years of design and sales experience, and 12 years in the Valley, his inclusion rounds out a full-service design team.

While AR has projects that span from Hawaii to Miami, they happily call Sun Valley home and plan to continue to do so in their recently expanded 3500 square foot showroom.

Rob McGowan developed a love for high design when he was just a boy, inspired back then by his father’s role as the U.S. distributor for Cassina and Knoll. In the early 1990s, Rob founded a high-end optical and designer eyewear business that was later acquired by Italian conglomerate Luxottica. For the next chapter of his life, Rob once again looked to what he enjoyed most: Design.

After establishing a working relationship with PoliformSpa in Los Angeles, he set his sights on opening his own showroom in Sun Valley, Idaho. In 2005, Rob opened the doors to Architectural Resources - the first and only contemporary furniture showroom in Sun Valley. Since then, the business has grown to include an additional 2,500 square feet of showroom space and secured exclusive distribution for B&B Italia. Rob is very involved in his community, having served multiple terms on both the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Community School boards. He resides in Sun Valley with his two children, Chloe and Peter.

Carmen Finegan brings over 15 years of architecture, design and project management experience to Architectural Resources. Since receiving her Master’s in Architecture from Pontifical Xaverian University, Carmen has been a recognized architect in the Sun Valley area, becoming a principal for Architectural Resources in 2011.

A nimble and detail-oriented designer, Carmen has been involved in the design and management of a wide range of projects that vary in scope, size, and challenge. These projects span from remodels and additions to new construction and frequently involve the skillful coordination of interior furnishings, cabinetry, lighting, and appliances for very high-expectation clients. Her approach to her work is respectful of efficiency and simplicity, rooted in the notion that clean design lends itself to a more satisfying and timeless result.

Originally from Ohio, Steve studied Visual Communications at Kent State University. He took this academic background and kicked off his career in interior design in Florida. After a few years, Steve brought his design experience to Ketchum and has made a name for himself in the valley over the last twelve years.

Steve’s design style is contemporary with an organic edge; he emphasizes simplicity and timelessness. As AR’s head of interiors, Steve manipulates and unites textures, color palettes, and scale to create client-oriented environments. In addition to his clean yet creative eye, Steve’s innate understanding of people is fundamental is his design practice. With this intuition, Steve translates the client’s functional needs and aesthetic vision into a stunning, comprehensive final product.

Hether took two winter quarters off while studying at UC San Diego to come ski Sun Valley in the 90’s. She made it back to the valley to raise her children in 2007 and enjoys many aspects of the active Sun Valley mountain life.
